Maumee OH‘s small town charm is mixed with a growing business center that includes Arrowhead Business Park. Its proximity to Toledo makes it one of northwest Ohio’s most popular suburban neighborhoods.

Located along the Maumee River,the city offers plenty to do. This community has something for everyone,from the annual Walleye Run at Side Cut Metropark to the historic battle of Fallen Timbers.

Shops at Fallen Timbers

The Shops at Fallen Timbers are a premier outdoor shopping center with something for everyone. There are stores for clothing,beauty and home decor as well as restaurants to eat at.

A popular destination for family outings,the mall is also very busy. On a recent 50-degree afternoon,the walkways were not crowded and mothers and daughters moseyed through the shops,many of which were advertising sales.

One of the more popular stores is the Real Seafood Company,which serves seafood from all over the country. The restaurant is located on Toledo’s docks and features premium wines to accompany the steaks,including Kobe A5 Striploin and Dry Aged NY Strip.

The Shops at Fallen Timbers has recently lost some stores,such as Regis Salon and Charming Charles’,but the mall overall is doing well. The new tenants have been attracting shoppers and boosting revenue. For example,Beer Barrel Pizza & Grill and Jed’s American Grill have been doing well since their openings.

Side Cut Metropark

A great place to bring kids or friends,this local attraction is a fun way to spend an afternoon. The words “I’m bored!” won’t be heard here. There are outdoor and indoor swimming pools,a play area,hiking trails in Silver Lake,kayaking on the lake,and much more.

On the Water Trail,you can get a glimpse of NW Ohio’s history at Side Cut Metropark. Three original canal locks have been preserved and an exact replica of a historic boat is on display. You can also explore the history of this region at other Metroparks Toledo locations,including the Isaac Ludwig Mill at Providence and the 1938 historic Manor House at Wildwood.

The newest park in the area,Glass City,offers multiple playgrounds,splashpad,events spaces and The Ribbon,a paved multi-use loop opened for skating in the winter and used for walking,roller skates or scooters during the summer. This park has received national attention,so you won’t want to miss it!

Farnsworth Metropark

This long,narrow park is located in Waterville and overlooks the Maumee River. It also offers a great view of Missionary Island,Butler Island,and Indian Islands. The park sits at one end of the Towpath Trail,which runs alongside the Maumee River and forms part of the blue-blazed Buckeye Trail system. The trail runs east from Farnsworth to Providence and Bend View Metroparks.

Bike the Maumee River Water Trail: This scenic trail connects five Toledo Metroparks including Bend View,Providence,Oak Openings,Farnsworth and Secor. It is perfect for cyclists of all skill levels,including families with children.

Kayak on the Maumee River. This activity offers a scenic way to see local wildlife,as well as beautiful views of the waterfront. You can choose a guided tour,or a glow paddle for 90 minutes. Explore the island and Roche de Bout,a protruding rock that was a landmark for Native people and early explorers. Leaders of the Miami,Shawnee and Lenape tribes held meetings on this rock,including one before the 1794 Battle of Fallen Timbers.

Wolcott House Heritage Complex

Maumee Valley Historical Society is based at the Wolcott House Heritage Complex. Its mission is to collect,preserve,study,and communicate the history of northwest Ohio. The museum complex includes two houses,a cabin,a railroad depot,and a church. All of these are furnished in a way that gives visitors a look at pioneer life.

The complex is named after James Wolcott who moved to Maumee,Ohio in 1818. He was a businessman who built wharves,warehouses and steamships on the Maumee River. The Wolcott House,a Federal/Classic Revival Mansion overlooking the Maumee River was built between 1827-1836.
